How we pick

Here is the thing we say up front, because it is the thing that decides whether you should trust the rest: units we claim to have tested: zero.We do not run a hands-on test lab, we do not have a rack of chairs we sat in for a month, and we are never going to write “in our testing” as though we do. Plenty of sites in this space make that claim. Most of them cannot back it up, and it is the easiest thing in the world for a competitor — or you — to falsify.

What we do instead is something you can actually check. We treat a buying decision as a problem you can reason about from published numbers, and we do that reasoning in the open. That is a method one careful person can run honestly across a whole category, and for comparing models it is more useful than a borrowed lab coat.

What we actually do

• Compile the published specifications.We read the manufacturer’s spec sheet and manual for every product — panel size and resolution, VESA pattern and weight rating, height range, switch type, port list, materials — and put them side by side so the differences are visible.
• Do the math the buyer needs.The desk width a 49-inch ultrawide really needs. Whether an arm’s clamp will close on a thick desk edge. Whether a standing desk’s height floor is low enough for a shorter user to get their elbows to 90 degrees. Whether a USB-C dock can actually drive two monitors from your specific laptop. These are knowable before you buy, and they are what decide a purchase.
• Read what owners report.Aggregated owner reviews are where the long-term problems surface — the gas spring that drifts, the coating that wears, the wobble at full height. We weigh patterns, not single angry reviews.
• Score against a published rubric. Every product gets a score on four category-appropriate metrics, and an overall out of 10. Those scores are editorial judgments from documented research— not measurements we took, because we did not take any.

What the scores are, and are not

The number under each product is our read of how well it does the job for the buyer this page is written for, built from the specs, the math and the owner consensus. It is not a lab result, and it is not an aggregate of customer star ratings dressed up as our own. We do not publish a star rating we did not compute through a process we can describe, and you will not find fabricated review counts anywhere on this site.

The “skip this if” rule

Every product we rank carries an honest reason notto buy it. A roundup where every pick is wonderful is a sales sheet, not a review. If the best value chair has thin padding, or the premium arm is overkill for a light monitor, we say so on the card — because the fastest way to earn a reader’s trust is to tell them when the cheaper option is the smarter buy.

How prices work

Every price on the site is pulled live from the Amazon Product API and stamped with the date we checked it. If that data is more than 48 hours old, the number disappears and the button falls back to “Check price on Amazon.” We would rather show you nothing than a figure that has gone stale. Amazon’s price at checkout is always the one that counts.

How often we update

Prices refresh daily. We re-check every roundup’s picks on a rough quarterly cadence and whenever a flagship model is discontinued or a major new one lands, and we update the “Updated” date on the page when we do.
