Editorial policy

The rules we hold ourselves to, so you know exactly what you are reading.

Chair & Cableexists to help you spend your money well on desk-setup gear. Everything below follows from that one goal — if a rule ever conflicts with it, the rule loses.

Independence

  • No free review units. Manufacturers do not send us products, and we do not accept them. Nothing we recommend arrived in a branded box with a thank-you note.
  • No sponsored placements, ever.No brand can pay to appear in a roundup, move up a ranking, or be named “best.” Sponsored placements accepted: zero.
  • Commissions never change a ranking. We earn an affiliate commission when you buy through our links, but the commission rate is invisible to the ranking. That is why you will sometimes see the cheaper product ranked above the one that pays us more.

Honesty about what we do

  • We do not lab-test. We compile published specifications, do the ergonomics and desk-depth math, and read aggregated owner reviews. Our methodology spells this out. We will never claim hands-on testing we did not do.
  • No fabricated ratings or reviews. We do not invent star ratings, review counts, testimonials, or owner quotes. The scores on the site are our editorial judgment from documented research, and we label them as such.
  • Every pick has a downside. Each product carries an honest reason not to buy it. If we cannot think of one, we have not looked hard enough.

Sourcing and accuracy

Specifications trace to the manufacturer or retailer listing; the ergonomics and fit math is ours and reproducible. Where we cannot verify a number, we say so on the page rather than quietly dropping it. Prices come only from the live price layer described in our methodology, never from memory.

Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we fix it openly — a significant correction is noted on the page, not silently edited away. If you spot an error, tell us on the contact page and we will look into it.

Updates

Prices refresh daily; roundups are reviewed on a rough quarterly cadence and whenever a major model changes. The “Updated” date on each page reflects the last real review, not an automated timestamp. Full funding details are on the affiliate disclosure page.
